Called To Teach

equipping through the ministry of teaching

What is Called To Teach?

I started Called To Teach because I strongly believe in the ministry of teaching. I also believe that, contrasted with other ministries such as pastoral services, music, or evangelism, there remains a lack of committed teachers in the twenty-first-century church.

Sound and thorough teaching is the key to longevity in the Christian life. According to the book of Hebrews, a lack of fundamental learning creates weak and unstable believers. (Hebrews ch. 5 & 6). Church leaders often wonder why members fall away, go astray in their beliefs, or backslide from the faith. In many ways, I believe these troubles can be ameliorated by sound teaching, but sound teaching is very hard work.

There is a presumption — mistaken I believe — that calling and anointing are the only reasonable prerequisites for entry into ministry within the church. The New Testament certainly teaches otherwise. According to Paul, one of the requirements placed upon aspiring church leaders is that they not be novices in matters of faith, studious, and apt to teach (I Timothy 3:6; II Timothy 2:4; 2 Timothy 2:15). Called To Teach was created to be a resource for current and aspiring teachers looking for in-depth content that offers a meaningful contribution to their studies. It is also my desire that Called To Teach become a forum for honest discussion and debate. Too often, ministers are labeled heretics or compromisers, not because they despise the faith, but because of disagreement. Called To Teach will be a place for long-form discussion and debate that combats spiritual immaturity.

Through this resource, I hope contributors and consumers alike will grow and inspire those around them to become better stewards of the Word of God.
