Seminar Series

  • Father & Son Language in the New Testament

Concerning the Sonship of Jesus Christ, what is the difference between oneness and trinitarian thought? This series is devoted to equipping Christians with a coherent and complete understanding of why the language of distinction between Father & Son exists in the New Testament. If God is one, why did the New Testament writers take such careful measures to distinguish Father & Son in their work? Using the Pauline tool of Adamic Christology (Romans ch.5 and First Corinthians ch.15), the lectures will expound upon the necessity of Father & Son language throughout the Bible. New Testament Christology, hermeneutics, and biblical languages are all discussed at length in this series. Through this series, attendees will gain a stronger understanding of the Sonship of Jesus Christ and the true nature of God.

  • Foundations of Christian Doctrine

These lectures are based on a teaching series called The Principal Things that Steven Gill taught to his local church in 2024. Each lesson will focus on a principle listed in the book of Hebrews chapter six. 1). Repentance, 2). faith toward God, 3). the doctrine of baptisms, 4). laying on of hands, 5). resurrection of the dead, & 6). eternal judgement, are the primary subjects of this lecture series. According to the writer of Hebrews, these six principles were the foundation upon which a stronger Christian life must necessarily be built; without them, no believer can move ‘from milk to meat’ (Hebrews 5:12-14). Using these six principles, the goal of the series is to equip believers to have a firm foundation upon which they can begin teaching others and making converts.

  • The Oneness of God

Nearly all Christians claim to believe in one God, but many are unfamiliar with what that phrase means. This series focuses on the two-fold biblical claim that: 1.) There is only one God. 2). God is indivisibly one. If these statements are so apparent in the biblical text, why do views about God’s disposition in the earth vary between religious sects? These lectures will have a primary focus toward expounding upon the difference between oneness and trinitarian theology, but they also serve to address tension between the Jewish and Christian theological positions. All Abrahamic religions of the world believe that there is only one God – nevertheless, the Christian viewpoint keeps believers diametrically distinct from the rest of the world in meaningful ways.

  • Biblical Hermeneutics

This series focuses on the five primary schools of thought in the discipline of biblical hermeneutics. Hermeneutics: the principles and processes that govern Bible interpretation. Put plainly, how Christians read the Bible matters. What one believes about the Bible, text and history alike, will greatly influence how they receive the words that are written on the pages. Was the Bible meant to be taken literally? What do Christians mean when they say the Bible is inerrant or infallible? Does the Bible contain literary themes? If so, what purpose do they serve? These questions and many others are addressed in this lecture series.

  • The History & Development of the Doctrine of the Trinity

How did trinitarian doctrine become so ubiquitous in the Christian world? This teaching series is based on Steven Gill’s 2022 book, The History & Development of the Doctrine of the Trinity. The series will primarily focus on equipping attendees with the knowledge necessary to clearly articulate the foundations of trinitarian Christian thought. The subject matter begins in ancient Greece, elaborating on the introduction of Hellenistic thought to the Near East, particularly ancient Israel. Moving through history, students will grasp the precursors to trinitarian thought and the earliest presentations of trinitarian doctrine. The series will also explain the apparent motivations that perpetuated its final form in A.D. 381 at the First Council of Constantinople. Significant time will be devoted to primary sources in ancient writing and the influence of Greek thought on the post-New Testament Era writers. The lecture series will conclude with the formation of the Ecumenical Catholic Church and the events the led to the centralization of Christian doctrine in the Roman/Byzantine papal states.

  • Jewish & Christian Relations in the 21st Century

Because the Christian relationship to the State of Israel has become more pronounced in recent decades, this series is focused on teaching Christians about what the Bible has to say about the importance of Jewish/Christian relations. Are Christians commanded to love Israel? If many Jews remain unconvinced of Christ’s Lordship, what should the proper Christian response to Judaism be? This series will equip listeners with a holistic understanding of philo-Semitism in Christian life, as well as the dangers of anti-Semitism in the church. A significant amount of time will be devoted to the biblical book of Romans, as well as historical examinations of Jewish/Christian relations throughout the millennia. The goal of this series is to dispel many traditional myths surrounding Christianity and Judaism, and to help Christians become more sound in their approach to New Testament soteriology.
